Greendigo is a sustainable, carbon neutral and an organic clothing brand for children of ages 0 – 12 years.

It offers 100% organic clothing certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), which not only affirms the organic status of raw materials but also guarantees that the manufacturing processes are socially and environmentally responsible.

Devoid of artificial fertilisers, synthetic pesticides and toxic colours, Greendigo’s organic garments are safe on the sensitive skin of children. The brand commenced operations in August 2019.

Greendigo’s garments are machine washable, hardwearing and practical. They are also capsule wardrobe friendly and their range includes everyday essentials for babies and kids. The brand ships worldwide and offers free shipping across India.

The ethos of the brand is rooted in a sustainable approach to kids’ clothing. The Mumbai-based brand has been co-founded by two sisters, Meghna Kishore and Barkha Bhatnagar Das.

With joint work experience of over 35 years in the financial sector, they decided to give up their respective corporate careers to drive a change in the kids’ apparel industry.

Deeply perturbed about the health issues associated with the use of synthetic fabrics in kids’ clothing and the environmental impact of these fabrics, the two set out to produce high-quality and vibrant kidswear, which is sustainable and 100% certified organic.

Synthetic fabrics have been known to cause health concerns. Children’s skin is significantly thinner (30% thinner than that of adults) and hence more absorbent of toxic substances present in their clothes.

Organic cotton is devoid of harmful chemicals, which makes it less likely to cause any allergies/skin conditions in children.

Apart from the health hazards, synthetic garments take a long time to decompose, creating long-term waste. They also account for the pollution of water bodies as harmful waste from the production process gets flushed into these. All this harms the environment and dangerous toxins make way into our food chain causing health issues.

A CARBON NEUTRAL BRAND

Customers can experience Greendigo’s carbon neutral journey across its website. Every carbon neutral product can be identified by a ‘Carbon Neutral’ visual on the product page. By clicking on the visual, you can see the exact amount of carbon offset for that product and explore the projects the brand invests in.

Each purchase confirmation email features a ‘Carbon Neutral’ button that customers can click to learn more about their carbon neutral order and the communities they’ve supported through their purchase.

Investing in offset projects was an approach that the brand figured would help them not just balance out the carbon emissions that the business produces, but also effectively neutralise them.

The Degraded Land Reforestation in Orissa and Chhattisgarh, the Solar Power Project in Rajasthan and a Biogas Plant that converts chicken litter into renewable energy sources, are among the growing list of initiatives that Greendigo contributes to.

All the projects the brand has invested in are rigorously verified and certified through The Gold Standard and UN Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Each project supports multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals in addition to offsetting CO2.

Greendigo is committed to UN SDGs and has eliminated the use of all plastics from its packaging.

GIVING BACK TO THE KIDS

Greendigo believes that clean clothing is not just a privilege of a few but should be a right of all children. The founders donate hundreds of new and unused organic cotton production samples and unsold inventory to children in urban slums and economically weak villages in India during the festive season.

For this endeavour, they associate with Trishul, an NGO working in the area of educating underprivileged children. “Since roughly 60% of discarded clothing reaches landfills, it is heart-warming to see the happy faces of these children donning organic clothes gifted by Greendigo. This also enables us to utilise unused inventory meaningfully,” says Kishore.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Meghna Kishore

An experienced professional of over 20 years, Meghna has gained multifunctional expertise in Business Management, Operations, Sales, Risk, Product Development in key markets across Asia and the UK. Having spent most of her adult life in Singapore, the Netherlands and London, on moving back to Mumbai, she was shocked to witness the lack of awareness regarding the harmful effects of synthetic clothing in India.

Having depended on friends travelling overseas to bring back organic clothes for her little one for many years, she took it upon herself to start a homegrown organic kidswear brand which was attractive but practical.

Barkha Bhatnagar Das

An experienced professional with an experience of over 13 years in retail banking, Barkha has been a part of leading private sector banks. Her banking stint helped her gain a wide perspective in mining consumer insights, product development, brand management and advertising.
